A classical and jazz saxophonist, Cheng-Yu Lee teaches saxophone and jazz history/appreciation/theory/performance/big band in National Taipei University of Education and Fu Jen Catholic University. Mr. Lee directs Taipei Jazz Orchestra which is the most well-known big band around the area. Mr. Lee earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Department of Civil Engineering, National Taiwan University in 1997. He obtained his Master of Music degree in saxophone performance from University of North Texas in 2004 after receiving music certificate from Bowling Green State University in 2001. During the years in U.S., he studied classical saxophone with Dr. John Sampen, Dr. Eugene Rousseau, and Dr. Eric Nestler, and jazz studies with James Miglia, Mike Steniel, James Riggs and John Murphy. As a teacher, Mr. Lee teaches camps and workshops around Asia, including Taipei Jazz Camp (Taipei), Taichung Youth Jazz Band Workshop (Taichung), Hong-Kong Jazz Workshop (Hong-Kong), Thailand Jazz Workshop (Bangkok), China Jazz Educators’ Conference (Shanghai) , etc. Mr. Lee released his first classical album Fantaisie in 2010, and was nominated the Best Arranger Award in the 21st Golden Melody Awards, first jazz album New Moon in 2012. He also produced two albums, Knives Out and Rose, Rose, I Love You with Taipei Jazz Orchestra in 2012 and 2014. His books, methods are published by Mercury Publishing House, including Jazz Theory for Novices, Daily Exercise for Saxophone Volume 1-3, Jazz Method for Alto Saxophone, 20 Easy Pieces for Saxophone, 12 Easy Pieces for Saxophone. Cheng-Yu Lee has been Antigua Saxophone Artist since 2013, and the instrument promotional concerts, clinics, masterclasses have brought him to over 15 cities in China.
