In 2010, Ting-Chuan Chen won 2nd place in the composition competition of The Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium. Then, after continuing to get first prize in various types of composition competitions in Taiwan and Europe, "Two Images" and "Nightmare Realm" won the 1st place winner and 2nd place winner of the 2013 PAS Italy Composition Contest.
Chen was born in 1977 in Taipei, Taiwan, and finished his BA and MA degrees in Percussion in the Department of Music at Fu Jen Catholic University and earned a Doctoral and second master's degree in music theory and composition in the Department of Music at National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied with Prof. Wen-Pin Hope Lee.
Chen is now the assistant principal of Timpani of the National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan.
