YU, Chang-Fa

YU Chang-Fa, born in 1942 in Chaoyang, Guangdong, studied composition at the National Vienna Conservatory of Music in 1969 and 1979. Afterwards, he has taught at department of music and department of Chinese music at the National Taiwan College of Arts and Catholic Fujen University and the National Taipei College of Arts. Such experiences have afforded him a proper understanding of traditional Chinese music across genres like Nanguan, Beiguan, Qin, Pipa, and classical poem chanting. YU's musical works are rooted in a sophisticated cultural heritage, which is often manifested in the techniques, arrangements, and tones as well as his various applications of both Chinese and Western concepts.
