Paul SanGregory's music has been performed extensively in Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan and other Asian countries, the United States, Europe, Canada, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It has been broadcast and discussed on NPR affiliated radio stations in the US and on various radio, web and TV broadcasts in Europe, Taiwan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. His works have been funded by The National Culture and Arts Foundation of Taiwan (ROC) and other organizations that have commissioned him include The University of Indianapolis, The University of Toledo, National Sun Yat-Sen's Baroque Camerata, National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Taipei University of Education, and National Pingtung University as well as The Association of Vocal Artists of the Republic of China, The Tainan Chamber Choir, The Kaohsiung Chamber Choir, The Ensemble Virtuosi (Taichung, Taiwan), The Pro Arte Trio (Taipei, Taiwan), Melothesia (Kaohsiung, Taiwan), Succession Percussion Ensemble (Kaohsiung, Taiwan), and The Taitung Philharmonic Society (Taitung, Taiwan). Recordings of his works are available on CDs produced by Early Music Society Taiwan, Capstone Records/Parma Recordings, Asian Composers League Taiwan, Leyerle Publications, ShineCreativity co. (NSYSU Baroque Camerata), Lumiere Records and Novana Records.
In the United States, Mr. SanGregory served on the music composition and theory faculties at the University of Indianapolis and the University of Toledo. He then taught theory and composition for many years at National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Sun Yat-Sen University and National Pingtung University. He was also a co-founder, coach, conductor and composer for NKNU’s Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Music Theory and Composition at National Kaohsiung Normal University, serves on the board of directors of The Asian Composers League’s Taiwan Section, and is a composer in residence for the Succession Percussion Ensemble of Kaohsiung.
Born and raised in Ohio, USA, he completed the Doctor of Music degree in composition at Indiana University, where his major teachers were Claude Baker and Frederick Fox. He also studied composition with Eugene O'Brien, Mark Phillips and David Jex, and has studied piano with Michel Block, Richard Syracuse, Thomas Hecht, and Anthony Pattin.
