I-lly Cheng (b.1984) creates the interdisciplinary composition comprising physical movement, electronics, soundscape, video, and installations. Fascinated by objecthood, she has been experimenting with various tangible materials. As a performance explorer, she has also been navigating among the possibilities of performers' individuality. Her music has been performed in various venues, such as International Rostrum of Composers, Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, ISCM World Music Day, International Computer Music Conference...etc.
I-lly received her Bachelor in piano at National Taiwan University of Arts, her master degree in Composition at National Taiwan Normal University, and the master study in Live Electronics at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She was a resident composer at CitéInternationale des Arts in Paris in 2014.
Her work, Into Strings, has received high recognition at the International Rostrum of Composer 2010. Her string quartet Dark, Light has won first prize at the fine arts creation award held by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. And her composition for soprano and electronics Heterochromatic Dream was selected as vocal piece in 2010-2011, sponsored by National Theater Concert Hall of Taiwan. Her quartet for Chinese traditional instrument Shan has won third prize at the composition competition of Chai Found traditional Music Workshop.
