Hsiao-Chiao Chen is a Taiwanese composer. She completed her bachelor's degree in Chinese music at Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA), majoring in Erhu (a Chinese instrument) performance. She was very active in various performances and participated in competitions during her study at TNNUA. She is currently pursuing the master's program in composition at Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA), studying with Prof. Ming-Hsiu Yen. She also received composition lessons from Pei-Yi Lee and Yun Lu.
Since 2014, she has created several works successively. Under the merger and learning of Chinese and Western music, she makes efforts to not only combine different musical articulations of traditional Chinese music and Western music, and also the subjects of her works are not limited to the traditional. She often recombines folk songs, ancient tunes, musical forms, poems, and Eastern and Western musical instruments to create a unique sound color and outstanding effects. So that her works have a multi-faceted display of color. Her work Cycle for Chinese Orchestra has got “Popularity Award” in the 2016 Taipei Chinese Orchestra International Composition Competition.
