Yi-Ting Lu is a Taiwan-born, Chicago-based composer. Her compositions focus on exploring the experience of timelessness evoked through fragmented musical materials. She serves as a fellow at Transient Canvas Composition Fellowship (2021), the nominated exchange composer of the Académie Voix Nouvelles (2019) and a representative composer of Taiwan in the 66th International Rostrum of Composers in San Carlos de Bariloche, Province of Rio Negro, Argentina (2019).
Lu’s compositions have received multiple awards, grants, and commissions, including 2022 Midwest Graduate Music Consortium Call for Scores, 2021 William T. Faricy Award for Creative Music, 2021 Nief-Norf International Call for Scores, 2020 Thailand New Music and Arts Symposium Call for Scores, 2017 the Carl Kanter prize for orchestral music, a finalist of 2020 Talea Ensemble Emerging Composer Commissioning Program, 2017 National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra Competition, and 2017 the Young Composers’ Competition of Annual Rudolph Award. In 2019, her work was Ilsuono Contemporary Music Academy’s Choice to e published by AltrEdizioni Casa Editrice. Her works have been supported by Taiwan National Culture and Arts Foundation and the Harry N. and Ruth F. Wyatt Fund.
Her music has been featured in music festivals, including Gaudeamus Festival (NL), Ilsuono Academy (IT), International Double Reed Society (USA), Musiikin Aiko Time of Music (FI), Musikinstitut Darmstadt (GR), Sound of Wander (IT), Time:Span Music Festival (USA), Voix Nouvelles Academy in Royaumont (FR), among others. Her compositions have been performed, awarded, and/or commissioned by ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Suono Giallo, Ensemble vocal Les Métaboles, Ensemble Mise-en, Mdi Ensemble, Mivos Quartet, Orkest De Ereprijs, PushBack Collective, Yarn/Wire, 3PeopleMusic, MSM Orchestra (under the baton of George Manahan), and many others.
