Renee Chang is a young Taiwanese composer and Sheng performer. She was taught by Professor Chia-Lin Pan in Master of Department of Music, University of Taipei, and her road of composing started in 2013 when she was being taught by Professor Yun Lu. She majored in Sheng when she was studying under Hui-Peng Tsai in National Tainan National University of The Arts. She also learned the art of Sheng under Professor Zhen-Fa Weng. Currently a member of the ISCM-Taiwan Section and Asian Composers League-Taiwan.
Aside from Sheng performing, she wishes to combine Chinese culture with music by composing. She was one of the Youth Ambassadors of Taiwan and performed in America, Central America and South America, and she was invited to perform her work of “Timbre of Sheng” on the closing ceremony of the first Chinese Sheng Art Festival in Shanghai.
She held her first concert in 2016 and her work of “Shengboyant” was awarded the excellent prize on the House Cup composing competition held by the Central Conservatory of Music in 2017. In 2018, she was invited to Canada to perform with contemporary art group Turning Point Ensemble. In 2019, she was invited by Ju Percussion Group to perform her work of “Harmony: Inspired by Yuefu poem ‘Shang Ye’.” She held her composition concert in 2020, and she also performed her 37-Reed Sheng works. In 2021, her music score of the 37-Reed Sheng work of “Shengboyant” and “The Color of Sheng” were published by the Taipei Chinese Orchestra and included in“Sheng Works.”In 2022, the Pipa and String Quartet work “Silent World ” was selected for the Weiwuying International Music Festival. From 2021 to 2022, she joined Ju Percussion Group Laboratory project, two Multiple Percussion Theatre works “Percussive Fun” and “Pure*Fitting*Time” were premiered during the same period. In 2023, she published her master's thesis “The Performance Techniques of 37-Reed Sheng and the Application in Solo and Chamber Works After 1985.”
