Of the Siraya people (Aborigine in Taiwan), Sandra Tavali is a former keyboardist of the classical ensemble "Indulge" and the well-known metal band "Chthonic". She is the composer for the TV documentary "Unknown Taiwan" produced by the Discovery Channel. Also, she was the artistic director of the musical “Dark Baroque.”
She began her music learning in Piano, Electone, Theory with her father Prof. Mao-sung Lee, and had been studied in the Music Department of Soochow University, Tainan Technology University and earned the Master of Music degree in Computer Music from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, where she studied computer music performance and composition with Dr. Geoffrey Wright. Her research “A Performer's Musicological Research in Performing Interactive Computer Music”was invited to present in ICMC 2004.
Her musical works crossover between classical and fine art, film, and documentaries. Since 2013, She started to work for theatre computer music workshops, encourage young musicians to work with deeper think-through creativities and collaborate with other international artists.
Her compositions "Duet in Autumn" for Max/MSP and YAMAHA Disklavier was featured at WOCMAT 2018 and NYCEMF 2018; "Ban Shan" was featured at the International Computer Music Conference-ICMC 2018 (Korea), New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival -NYCEMF 2017, klingt gut! Symposium on Sound, Hamburg, Germany 2016, and selected at Sound and Music Computing-SMC 2015 (Ireland); "Dirge" was featured at ICMC 2015 (USA), "River, Rim and the Earth" was featured at NYCEMF and New York Philharmonic Biennial 2016, selected at ISMIR 2015 (Spain), "The Wind Bloweth Where It Listeth" was featured at WOCMAT-IRCAM 2016.
She is currently one of the curators of sound and music in Guling Street Avant-Garde Theatre, Taipei, also a faculty member of Fu-Jen University.
