Shuo-Chun Lin (b. 1996), graduate student of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), majoring in music composition, currently studying with Prof. Ching-Wen Chao. He was awarded First Prize, Best Fuga, and Best Free Composition in the 9th International Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition (IADCC), Junior Division in 2018.

He embarked on his musical journey at a young age, learning piano and composition. During middle school, he studied composition with Michael Kaulkin at San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division, and music theory with Jerry Gerber. At 14 years old, having "wowed the selection committee with his exceptional talent", he was selected to participate in the 2010-2011 Under Construction Program of Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, under the guidance of music director Joana Carneiro, creative advisor Gabriela Lena Frank, and composers John Adams and Enrico Chapela. The Surroundings (2011), his duet for violin and piano, was performed by concertmaster Franklyn D'Antonio and pianist Miles Graber.

His high school composition, “Morning Call” (2013), was premiered by NTNU Symphonic Band.

Entering university, he held a Freshman Recital with other composition students, had a chamber composition“Treetops Adventure” (2015) selected for 2016 Interschool Students' Concert, and the orchestral version was performed by New Taipei Symphony Orchestra in Banqiao, New Taipei City.“My Brother”(2016), his violin concerto, was performed by NTNU New Music Orchestra. Other chamber works include“War Trip”(2017), clarinet octet commissioned by HeySeed Clarinet Ensemble, The“Rainbow Swirl”(2018) for flute, cello and piano, and“Mosey Cat”(2018) for violin, clarinet and piano, which was a finalist for IADCC.

He participated in Joint Composition: Webern Project, where he and other composers collaborated with Ensemble Quatrain Cologne in 2016. He composed theme music for stage play“Time Slipping through Fingers”(2017), where western music is mixed with traditional puppetry and music. Meanwhile, his efforts in computer music were demonstrated in collaborative works as a group, such as “Collapse”(2016), and“The Release”(2020). He also frequently arranged festival and concert pieces for NTNU Symphonic band.

In 2019, he was commissioned a viola solo composition,“Forest Dance”(2019), by Taiwan Viola Ensemble, various string quartet compositions commissioned by Chen Weibin, Swa I Yan (2020) by Tabernacle Women's Choir. Currently, he was commissioned a viola quartet composition and choir composition for concerts in 2021.
