A Tech-Savvy Composer, Zoe Lin got her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music composition at the age of 26 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. She has been worked as the Chief Music Officer and Co-founder at AMPai Music, a company that focuses on AI in music composition. Currently, she is working as a musical artist/composer in music technologies. Her works include the music, sound effect, and 3D immersive mixing of “Diving into Siraya” (which was exhibited at The Kaohsiung Film Festival in 2020), the entire project of VR App “VArt Journey”, the entire project and the algorithmic composition in the App “The Forest Breath”, the music design and algorithmic design of the music of sound & light installation “The Image of the Light Score” of the permanent outdoor exhibition of The Taiwan Music Institute, etc.
Besides working on projects of musical arts, she is working as a consultant of AMPai Music right now, supporting the research of AI systems and algorithms in music composition. In the academic area, she has conducted the course design of “Play Music — the Unlimited Possibilities of Digital Music” in the Data Analysis Area of a national-based academic project “ Programming Learning for University Students (http://plus.pro.edu.tw/). She is currently an Assistant Professor and teaching “Learning Programming and Playing Music” at the National Taiwan Normal University, and music composition at the Fu-Jen Catholic University.
She researches music composition with technologies, including algorithmic composition, neural network, sound design, Unity 3D, and Max/MSP. She designed and programmed the prototype and the most important cells of the AI composition systems at AMPai music. The programming language she is using including Python, C#, JavaScript, Swift, and ChucK.
She composes musical works of contemporary classical music, electronic music, and multimedia musical works with 3D video game scenes. Her VR work “Journey into the World of Dimensions” has been invited and performed in 2018 World Saxophone Congress in Croatia, and the VR version of this work has been present worldwide, including WOCMAT-IRCAM Joint Conference 2016 in Taiwan, Klingt gut 2017 in Hamburg, Germany, and Audio Mostly 2017 at the Queen Mary University of London in the UK. Also, she was invited to the Department of Information Systems and Multimedia Design at Tokyo Denki University to present her VR work. “VArt Journey” which is the VR iOS App version of Journey into the World of Dimensions, has been downloaded and played worldwide including the USA, Canada, Russia, UK, Croatia, Germany, Lebanon, Turkey, France, United Arab Emirates, etc.
