Music commentary
( dedicated to the clarinetist Professor Song Wei-de) Different from the meaning of catholic, this “Pietá” means the master of the universe, though powerful it maybe, cannot control all the situations to keep human being from the disasters in Earth. Bass clarinet expresses the beautiful sentiment. This instrument has broad sounds with wide range of dynamic and varied tone colors. This music was developed from a formula of 12 tones. At the last section of the piece, it suddenly finished, when the performer highly lifted his leg and stepped down to the ground.
