LIN, Yin-Yin

Yin-Yin Lin has begun her formal training in music theory and composition at the Affiliated High School of National Taiwan Normal University. She continued her musical training at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), and subsequently completed her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in music theory and composition. During her 10 years’ undergraduate and graduate studies at NTNU, Yin-Yin Lin was mainly under the instruction of Professor Fang-Long Ko and completed her M.A. thesis and doctoral dissertation under his supervision. In her early studies, she was instructed by Professor Shyh-Ji Pan-Chew, Professor Yen Lu, and Professor Wen-Tzu Lu.

Yin-Yin Lin has won various distinctive awards for musical achievements, both nationwide and from the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan, including the Merits Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2001, the Third Prize (lack of First and Second Prize) of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2002, the Merits Duet Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2003, the Merits Solo Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2003, the First Chorus Prize of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2005, the Merits Chamber Music Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2005, the Merits Solo Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2005, the Merits Student Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2006, and the first Prize of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2007, and the Merits Student Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE in 2009.

In addition to the afore-mentioned MOE awards, Yin-Yin Lin received the Honorary Mention of Tsang-Houei Hsu International Music Composition Award in the vocal category in 2006. And in 2007, she represented Taiwan as a young composer to attend the Asia Pacific Festival held in New Zealand, on February 15th. At the same year, she also represented Taiwan as a young composer to attend the UNESCO Music Rostrum Council.

In 2009, Yin-Yin Lin was awarded both the 2008 Composition Competition of Taiwan Folk Music Teaching Materials for Junior High Choruses and the Third Prize Award in the composition contest "Establishing of Music Composition and Marketing Platform" held by National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, she received the 2009 Composition Competition of Taiwan Folk Music Teaching Materials for Senior High Wind Bands Award. In 2012, she was awarded the 2012 Composition Competition of Taiwan Folk Music Teaching Materials for Junior and Senior High Orchestra Award. And in 2011, her work “Hakkanese Rhythm from the Heart” received the “NCO Award”, the First Prize Award, of the 2011 TMC International Composition Competition.

In more recent years, Yin-Yin Lin’s Taiwanese Mini-Musical: “The Taste of Life”, and “My Father’s Lunch Box”, and her Taiwanese Musical: “Songs of Happiness” were performed at National Recital Hall. Additionally, in 2013 she earned Honorable Mention in Traditional Opera Script Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE for her Taiwanese opera script entitled “Love Recreated”. Moreover, in 2016 she earned Honorable Mention in the Drama Script Award of Literary and Artistic Creation from MOE for her Taiwanese musical script entitled “Songs of Happiness”.
