Philosophy of Her Composition
There are various stories concealed in the course of life, and there are complex emotions behind life.
Started to learn Guzheng in 1968, Huang Hao-yin has long cherished the passion for Zheng music. Beginning in 1978, she studied theoretical composition with Prof. Ma Shui-Lung and Prof. Chang Pang-Yen, hoping to be able to record, in the form of music, the feelings and thoughts like what poets have been doing. She won the Chinese Music Instrument Composition Award in 1979, which has immensely enhanced her confidence.
Her compositions include: "Formosa Spring Breezes and Sweet Dews" (1978), which won the second place in the Guzheng category in the Chinese Music Instrument Composition Award the following year.
"Song of Victory" and "The Rainbow Fairies" (1979)
"Wishes" and "Songs of Spring" (1981)
"The Joy of Spring" (1983)
"Seeking for the Dream" and "Flower's Dance" (1986)
She has then been devoted to writing on the theories of traditional and modern Guzheng music. Her works include: “A Study on the Performing Art of Zheng Music”, “A Study of Sixty-eight Ban Zheng Compositions” and “A Selected Anthology of Taiwanese Zheng Music and an Essay on Zheng Compositions by Huang Hao-Yin”.
Her compositions also include: "Reincarnation" and "Three Cats Amusing Themselves by the Zheng" (2009)
"Flying Apsaras Dance" and "The Sensation of Taipei" (2011)
"E de le" (2012)
"Melting from the Poles" (2017)
"The Book of Heaven without Words - Zheng Trio and Storyteller" (2018)
"Taiwan Lantern Festival-Zheng Lead, Accompanied by Musical Saw, Violin, Piano and Percussion" (2019)
"The Sun - Zheng Lead, Accompanied by Piano, Chinese Xun Ocarina, Vertical Bamboo Flute Xiao and Male Chorus" (2021)
She has arranged her own works in dozens of the recitals, because those are the stories of her life in different periods. These works are often performed by Zheng musicians in the performance halls, national concert halls, and recital halls of cultural centers around the country, and many of them won special awards in local and national music competitions.
These compositions are all among her works in two performances in the 21st century: in 2017 and 2021. Efforts are made to integrate visual, auditory and musical imagery so it feels like smooth silk rolling rivers.
"Good music pieces are like stars from heaven to bring blessings to lives on earth." Hope you all enjoy it.
