Born in 1979 and currently living and working in Taipei, Jia Zhen Tsai holds a teaching position and has chosen the path of independent curator to develop her curation.

With an opportunity to collaborate with Israel, Tsai initiated research on identity and geopolitics, with a focus on video art as the carrier of its exhibition series.

In recent years, apart from geopolitical issues, Tsai also contemplates situational narrative and representation of exhibitions and works.

The curatorial projects from 2008 to 2012 pivot on the similarities and differences in contemporary Taiwan and Israel geopolitics as mirror images. Though mirroring attempts to discuss similarities, the works from two disparate places each present a locality and highlights the difference in development in their geographic regions.

However, the recent ongoing Korean project not only continues the theme of geopolitics, but also studies how works and curatorial projects expand on the concept of “narrative.” Compared with arguments of abstract ideas, narrative is more aligned with epistemology.

In addition to the application and study of narrative, Tsai also wrote short stories as exhibition discourse to construct a context for comprehension. In the exhibition projects from 2019 to 2020, Tsai works from the point of view of a female curator protagonist. The chapter opens with a family incident to retrospectively regard a tragedy of the times, and subsequently integrates stories and scenes with the discourse of the works in the exhibition and its context.
