ABOUT THIS SITE

Curating, as a process of cultural production, involves the integration and action of different fields of knowledge. In today's booming contemporary arts scene, curatorial forms have gradually acquired various appearances and formed a complex development trend.

In 2004, the National Culture and Arts Foundation (NCAF) launched the Production Grants to Independent Curators in Visual Arts (PGICVA), an open call for quality exhibition projects with innovative experimental concepts. In 2010, NCAF also launched the Curator's Incubator Program @ Hong-Gah Museum (now Curator's Incubator Program @ Museums, CIP@Museums) in conjunction with the professional resources of art museums, in order to provide emerging and potential curators with opportunities for curatorial practice. Since 2004, through regular calls for submissions and injection of funds, it has helped to foster the field of curatorship in Taiwan's art ecosystem, promote the curatorial profession, and cultivate curatorial talent.

NCAF Visual Arts Curating is a project based on the outcomes of NCAF's curatorial grants over the years. By organizing, constructing, and analyzing exhibition outcomes, experts and scholars in the field of visual art curating are invited to review and analyze the relevant project history and cases, as well as observe the impact and industry trends, with the hope of accumulating academic discussions on every dimension. At the same time, the outcomes index of recipient exhibitions will be integrated and made available to the public as an open resource to promote the adaptive reuse of the outcomes.

By collecting, archiving, and maintaining curatorial self-descriptions (curatorial philosophy and research interests), curatorial experiences, curatorial outcomes, and research publications of former grant recipients, NCAF Visual Arts Curating also establishes a platform for curators. These curators have a wealth of curatorial research and practical experience, and together they can build a platform that will offer extensive resources and provide a window to get to know Taiwan's curators. It is hoped that this platform will further benefit local and international exchanges in the future.

In addition, NCAF Visual Arts Curating also actively compiles and records the relevant recipient exhibition projects of PGICVA and CIP@Museums. Through filming and interviews on-site at art venues, the implementation process, and related outcomes, we hope to present the diverse curatorial styles and practice models of different exhibition projects, and cumulatively establish a curatorial history archive.

The contents of NCAF Visual Arts Curating's current in-progress tasks are as follows:
