East Asia, a Curatorial Practice in Progress: A Preliminary Investigation on the International Dimension of NCAF Production Grants to Independent Curators in Visual Arts, 2012-2019

This study focuses on the relationship of the development of the arts and cultural environment with the curatorial projects in East Asia from 2012 to 2019, attempts to identify the niche and strategy of Taiwanese curators in the East Asian environment, and considers the significance and role of NCAF grants in the international development of art, as well as possibilities for future policies.

Diverse Strategies for Connecting the Taiwanese and European Cultures and Art Networks—Using Art Curatorship as Method

This study is based on the NCAF International Residential Research and Exhibition Exchange Project. It explores how the visibility of Taiwanese art can be enhanced in Europe, how continuous connections can be developed, and how Taiwan can participate in mainstream discussions in the European art world. By conducting interviews, this study analyzes the results of this project and possible future developments.

The Potential of Exhibitions to Reveal the Entangled History: A Discussion on the Value of Research-Based Exhibition

The words "research" and "exhibition" in the term "research-based exhibition" are equally important, and their value is akin to the relationship between practice and theory—current theory is used as a foundation and means to create new knowledge. Not only is research key to the success of an exhibition, but it can also lead to new discussions on complex and entangled circumstances in reality which are difficult to express.

Incubation Time: Retrospective Survey and Re-Evaluation of NCAF Curatorial Grants

For this report, 11 curators that received Production Grants to Independent Curators in Visual Arts or were part of the Curator's Incubator Program by NCAF in the past were interviewed in 2021 regarding the development of their curatorial career, in order to establish a context for the development of contemporary art curatorship in Taiwan throughout the 2010s and formulate relevant recommendations for NCAF mechanisms.

Taiwan's Contemporary Art Exhibitions—A Discourse on "Cities"

This paper attempts to research three curatorial projects that used the "city" as their venue in the era of globalization during the 2000s decade. I will discuss how they began a micro-revolution in the cities and consider the impact brought by globalization and modernization. I also hope that this paper will pave the way for further related research.

Stories of Curators: Examining the Taiwan Curatorial Ecosystem in 2004-2021 Through NCAF Curatorial Grants

Ten curators who received NCAF curatorial grants reveal their career journey, putting together a picture of Taiwan's curatorial ecosystem: Although the grants were helpful, there was a lack of support in the whole ecosystem. Many difficulties occurred in the career development of the curators, especially those as independent curators in the realm of pure art. Fortunately, in-house curating is transforming and shows promise.

Through interviews, the author examines their personal curatorial ideas, methods, contexts, and connections; she treats curating as a practice and attempts to explore possibilities for viewing Taiwan's contemporary curatorial landscape.
