CURATOR PROFILE
CHI Chien, born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1974, graduated from the Graduate School of Plastic Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts. CHI Chien's creation concerns include the materials to be processed, the field in which the works themselves exist, and how “we” participate and how to experience the operation of an artistic mechanism. CHI Chien believes that creation is a process by which creators become viewers, and “doing” is only for “seeing.” To watch, “seeing” itself is the center of duality. Whether it is painting or overall spatial installation, he wants to reveal the complex limitations of “seeing” itself in detail.
CURATORIAL INTERESTS
CHI Chien's research focuses on the transition of materials, paintings, installations and spatial fields. His curatorial work has always been regarded by him as a continuation of artistic creation. He is interested in a field that has undergone specialisation into disciplines, and has various possibilities for interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, pluri-disciplinary and multidisciplinary practices. In the exhibition “Specific Containers - Unity and Separation of Boundary” planned in 2021, in addition to discussing the evolution of the domain concept and the expansion of its connotation from the perspective of the discipline, it also refers to a political geography concept - “Territory”, which is The spatial understanding of the relationship between power changes existing in different subjects is also a process, practice, product, strategy and technology that can be gradually formed through continuous development.
