Curator Hsieh Yu-Ting|When Islands Dream

SUMMARY

This video documents the collaboration between NCAF and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei (MoCA Taipei), in support of the exhibition project by curator Yu-Ting Hsieh, recipient of the Curator's Incubator Program @ Museums. It presents footage and interviews from the art venue, execution process, and curatorial practice of When Islands Dream.

When Islands Dream combines modern observations and analyses of dreams by recent trauma studies with the Dreaming Ceremony tradition of the Matsu Islands. In this project, artists play the role of dreamers and dream on behalf of Matsu to gather lost dreams and simultaneously summon visions of the future. This exhibition utilizes multiple forms such as contemporary visual art, audio recording, Butoh, and writing and photography workshops to unearth subconscious memories and feelings, project and overlay thoughts on the present and future by Matsu residents, and build a local space-time archive that belongs to Matsu.
