Professor Hsieh is a retired professor in the Music Department and Music Graduate School of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Graduated from the Music Department of NTNU. His teachers include Professors: Tsang-Houei Hsu, Mao-Shuen Chen, and Yan Lu. Piano course with Professors: Shu-Mei Liu, Da-Shen Chang, In 1976 he wrote the first work：Piano Sonata “Classic”, It include complete 3 movements.

He further studied at the “Universitat fur Musik und darstellonde Kunst Wien”in Austria, taking composition from Professor Shermann. Hsieh is devoted to the education of ear-training and to the music theory, and created many writings in early years.

In recent years, he is involved in the analysis and research of modern music after the 20th century.

Since 2001, he has been to Germany to participate in the master classes held by music master Karlheinz Stockhausen for many years, and has a deep understanding of Stockhausen's works. He teach the courses of the monographic study of Stockhausen's music and “Music Analysis of Twenty Century”at the Graduate School of NTNU.

In recent years, he is still devoted to creation, and from the local and Chinese cultures, he explores the possibility of building a new style of modern musical culture together.
